UnfoldMath

Unfold Math started at the kitchen table.

Like a lot of parents, I found myself sitting down with my kids to work through their math homework — multiplication, long division, all those column operations that feel obvious once you know them but are genuinely confusing when you first encounter them. The problem wasn't that my kids couldn't do the math. It was that the steps were invisible. You write down a carry, cross out a digit, shift a row — and if you miss the moment it happens, you lose the thread entirely.

I wanted something that would slow it all down and make every single step visible — not just the answer, but the why behind each move.

So I built it. First for my own kids, to make homework time a little less frustrating and — if I'm honest — a bit more fun. My wife and I would sit with them and watch the carries fly across the screen, and suddenly a concept that had caused a week of confusion would just click.

Once the tools were working and the kids were actually enjoying the process, it seemed obvious to share them. Building and translating web tools is fast these days, and if something helps one family at the kitchen table it will probably help others too. So here it is.

Unfold Math is free, works on any device, and will always be free. No accounts, no paywalls, no sign-ups — just the math, unfolded.
