Why step-by-step matters

Free math calculators that show every step

Unfold Math is a collection of free animated calculators for elementary school arithmetic. Every tool covers one operation — multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, decimals — and walks through the calculation digit by digit, exactly the way it is taught on paper. Carries fly to the right column, borrows are crossed out visually, partial products stack up in the right order. Nothing is skipped.

Why animated tools help kids learn

Seeing the answer is not the same as understanding the method. Static worked examples help, but animated step-by-step tools that highlight the active digit and reveal carries at exactly the right moment allow students to follow the logic in real time. They can pause, step back, re-run the calculation with different numbers, and build genuine intuition for why the algorithm works — not just how to execute it.

Who these tools are for

Unfold Math is designed for children in elementary school — typically ages 6 to 12 — and for the parents and teachers who sit with them. Every calculator is completely free, works on any device without an app or account, and is available in English, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. The tools are also useful for older students revisiting foundational concepts and for teachers looking for clear visual demonstrations to show in class.
